Shirai and Watanabe with Azzopardi trio |

Sensei(s) Hiroshi Shirai and Watanabe (1972 World kumite champion with record number of ippon scores), with the Azzopardi Trio, Sensei Franco Azopardi, Kohai Omar Azzopardi and Iden Azzopardi after the great success in the 2001 European Championship of the ITKF. Franco placed 5th in the Senior kata event, Iden placed 2nd in the Cadets Kata event and Omar struck gold in the Junior Kata event. Iden and Omar placed 3rd in the Enbu category and the trio placed 5th in the Senior team kata event. Sensei Shirai attributed this success to the dedication the team places on kihon training.
